The Chairman Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Obinna Ogba, [Ebonyi Central] has said giving the National Sports commission the necessary legal backing will help develop the administration of all Sports in Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists after he submitted the Senate Committee Report seeking to formally establish a National Sports Commission, Obinna Ogba the National Sports Commission establishment Bill, 2017 has a whole lot of benefits for sports in Nigeria.
His words, ‘‘ There is no way our sports can develop without a commission, the Bill which I submitted today [Tuesday] has gone through first and Second reading’’
‘‘Sports in this country is lagging behind, with an existing law stakeholders will be able to follow a road map for the development of the sector in Nigeria’’
It is a pity that the Olympic Games is coming up an there is no sign of any preparations for that all important games’’Speaking However, on a report of a bill seeking to give legal backing for the establishment of the Nigerian Football Federation, Ogba said though the report was withdrawn it will however be given assent next week when he plans to represent the bill after it may have been fine tuned.
WATCHDOG correspondent Francis Etuko quotes Ogba as stressing that some grey areas which deals with seeking redress were to be reviewed as the World Football Governing Body, FIFA statues frowns at seeking redress in court when trying to address football, since it has a Court of Arbitration for Sports.
