Former Zamfara state Governor, Senator Sani Yerima says because there are disagreements between the Senate and the Executive does not mean there is a problem between the two arms of government.
Speaking when he was confronted by some journalists in Abuja, the former Senate Minority Leader said the Senate will always do its work
‘‘ There is always going to be serious misunderstanding in terms of approval of the things the President has sent such as the budget, once there is a difference that does not mean there is a problem’’
Speaking on the suspension of the former Senate leader, Senator Ali Ndume who was suspended for six months for bringing to notice publications from some online sources about the educational status of Senator Dino Melaye and disagreements between the Senate President and the Nigerian Custom Service over alleged importation of an SUV meant for the President of the Senate Ndume had this to say..
‘‘This is the beauty of democracy, in the Senate we are 109 members, we may not have the same opinion and views on issues’’
‘‘What is important is that the decision to suspend Ndume is binding on all Senators, even when I was not there when the decision was taken, the beauty of ‘Democracy’ also allows for people to protest against the decision that was taken by the Senate, it is now left for the Senate to review its action and see if there is any need to reconsider what it has done’’
‘‘In democracy today people can even hire thugs, but I don’t see it as a problem really’’ Senator Yerima did not however mince words, as he was
unable to explain how Ndume who was once a leading figure in the Senate and a former Senate Leader fell out of grace so quickly, his words..
‘‘Ndume was once a ‘Principal Actor’ in the Senate, even when the 8th Senate was convened he led a group of other senators’’
‘‘Whatever happened along the line, I don’t know’’
